Regret

The best part about an English Mastiff is that you almost never have to punish them. They are smart enough to know when they did something wrong and when they get caught, their overwhelming guilt for doing so is punishment enough. Considering they look sad when they are happy, it's almost impossible to yell at them when they really are sad, because they are just so darn pitiful!

Innocent Until Proven Guilty

Right after Winston had a free-for-all with the TP, he excitedly ran into the living room to continue with his fun new "toy," only to have his excitement quickly turn into regret when he found me sitting there, waiting. All I had to do was point at the mess and calmly ask him if he was responsible, and in true Mastiff fashion, he punished himself to his bed to sit and sulk while I cleaned it up.
